We promote a Burundian economy through industrial development that meets national and international standards, produce and consume locally. In addition, export the surplus abroad so that every mouth has something to eat and every pocket has money as said by His Excellency the President of Republic of Burundi :”Major Evariste Ndayishimiye”.

More About Our Mission

Our motivation to produce cooking and table salt in the world, comes from the fact that we realized opportunities within our country Burundi and beyond, and a high rate of unemployment in Burundi. The framework of the implementation of the will of the Burundian Government which, in the industrial sector in order to produce locally the products of first necessities and the correspondence of prohibition by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism to import salt that does not meet the standards recognized by the EAC and the BBN in its letter ref: PSB/1535/CM/CI2019 dated 20/8/2019. In addition to this, the importation of salt was until then done in an anarchic way, sometimes with insufficient national and international standards. JEBC wanted to develop a factory equipped with a laboratory to deal with these problems which jeopardized the health of the people .

With a mission to improve the quality of life, JEBC is dedicated to do the research , produce , marketing and sales of health and development related products. We improve the quality of life through the development, application and sale of breakthrough biotechnology solutions. Our mission is also focus on satisfying the need of our customers. We strive to provide our customers with a great experience every time through interacting with them. This customer-centric approach is at the heart of the business strategy and shapes our business.

Our Experience

Based on our professional experience acquired during the period that JEBC worked as a salt
importer, it has then decided to respond to the invitation issued by His Excellency the President
of the Republic of Burundi EVARISTE NDAYISHIMIYE to young people, who promotes youth
entrepreneurship in the industrial sector in order to produce basic necessities locally. Through
that motivation, JEBC FACTORY was born to ensure that Burundi will no longer need to import
a refined salt.
Thus, the JEBC FACTORY was created on 09/01/2023 and begins to produce and sell current
branded products JEBC SALT and JEBC PREMIUM.
JEBC FACTORY was officially inaugurated by His Excellency the President of the Republic of
Burundi EVARISTE NDAYISHIMIYE on 3/31/2023.
Our current daily production capacity is 120 tons of refined salt, 3600 tons per
month and then 43200 tons annually. Beyond, we are looking forward to increase
our production capacity to 180 tons per day starting in November 2023.

JEBC is there as a solution to good health by fighting against the importation of salt which does not meet standard standards which can lead to diseases such as hypothyroidism because a severe iodine deficiency leads to hypothyroidism which can cause symptoms such as great fatigue and digestive problems such as constipation. In the long term, swelling of the thyroid, or goiter, may also appear. With a high quality laboratory responsible for salt iodization, JEBC guarantees the health of consumers of its products.

Fight against poverty

Since its creation as a salt production plant in Burundi, JEBC has already hired more than one hundred and thirty-four employees (134 employees) working full time. It even plans to increase its workforce to more than 200 employees by December 2023.

Gender equality

JEBC fights against gender discrimination since it hires its employees according to ability and knowledge. Its employees so far rank as 48% male employees and 52% female employees.

Protection of the environment

Our concern for safety is paramount, without the environment we could not exist, which is why we strive to protect and respect the environment in which we operate. We refine, transform and package the salt ourselves, respecting the climatic conditions. Second, JEBC's extensive supply chain network ensures that we are well positioned to meet our domestic market and climate requirements.

OUR HISTORY

The promoters of the idea of setting up the iodized salt refinery plant in Burundi are two Burundians who have beeninvolved for quite some time in the sale of iodized salt imported from the United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya and India who have long had trade relations and training in these countries in factories for the manufacture of cooking and table salt. These are Mrs. NIYONGERE Eulfride and Mr. HABARUGIRA Jean who have come together to form a SPRL “JESSY BLESSING COMPANY, JEBC in acronym” dealing with the production, sale, import and export of iodized salt.
